Role-play "Planning the Future": Role card 1 (Young man)
You have got 15 minutes time to read your personal profile sheet ( see below) and reflect upon what you are going to say during the role play. Also take into consideration how your partner might react and try to develop a
strategy with which you can convince her to accept your plans. You may take notes.
It’s essential to keep the following items of information strictly in mind during the role play. Don’t speak German! Here are some details about your life, intentions and preferences:
- age: 32
- name: You may use your own first name in the role play.
- job: clerk in a small bank
- home: You live in Clarksville, a small rural town in northern Texas surrounded by beautiful landscape.
- marital status: still single but in love with a 27-year-old girl from the same town; she is a well-qualified computer programmer in search of a job.
- intentions: You want to marry that girl soon and raise a family.
- preferences: You feel slightly uncomfortable about your much better qualified future wife. You’d rather like her to stay at home, do the household and raise your children.
Task: When you meet your girl friend suggest marrying soon, moving to your parents’ house and raising a family together. You have got ten minutes time to convince her.

- job: well-trained computer programmer in search of a qualified job; yesterday you got an interesting offer for a well-paid job in a big computer company in Dallas, 350 miles away from where you presently live.
- home: You live in Clarksville, a small rural town in northern Texas surrounded by beautiful landscape.
- marital status: still single but in love with a 32-year-old boy from the same town; he is a clerk in a small bank and doesn’t earn very much.
- intentions: You want to make a career first and raise a family later.
- preferences: You’d like to combine a professional career with raising children. You expect your partner to share household duties.
Task: When you meet your boy friend tell him about your interesting job offer and about your plan to accept it. You have got ten minutes time to convince him.
